I'm Ève. I am 12 years old and am being treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia
It was mid-winter 2024 when Ève started feeling that something wasn’t right. An avid skier and fierce competitor, she was experiencing pains in her back. She ignored them for a time, and kept up with her sport, but one day realized she had no choice but to stop.
On February 15, she saw her family doctor, who ordered X-rays… and her life was turned upside down. She had several fractured vertebrae. Her parents took her to the emergency room at CHU Sainte-Justine. After examinations and two days of uncertainty, the diagnosis arrived: acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
From seemingly one minute to the next, Eve was launched into an alien world. One of hospital rooms, intense treatments, wheelchairs, constant pain, medications and long absences from school. And a reality that she could no longer run, ski or even walk without assistance.
The first 35 days in the hospital were the hardest, but Eve persevered through the chemotherapy, pain, and loss of mobility. Through it all, she never lost heart. She has gone back to school. She cooks almost all of the household meals. In her dreams there is skiing, mountain biking, travel and swimming. Her sense of humour, natural curiosity, and strength of character have never failed her. Ève was inspired and motivated by the resilient spirit of the Olympian Valérie Grenier and her own aunt Gege, who had had a serious cycling accident.
The young teen is now gradually returning to the sports she loves, hoping to compete in skiing again soon. In a maintenance phase and have chemo sessions every three weeks. Treatment is expected to end in April 2026.
Ève is an endearing and bright young girl with maturity beyond her years and a circle of admirers that includes her adoring family and friends.
