Hi, my name is Bruce, I am 4 years old and I am undergoing maintenance treatment for type B ALL leukemia
On July 30, 2024, life changed suddenly and drastically for Bruce and his parents. On that day, this lively little boy, just three years old, was diagnosed with Type B acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Over the space of just a few days, the busy routine of a curious and active boy gave way to weekly treatments, long stays in the hospital and entire days at home, far from the games and giggles at the daycare centre. On top of it all, immunotherapy obliged him to stay connected at all times, carrying a small bag of medication with him like an invisible companion helping him get better.
The hardest part for Bruce, though, was not being able to see his daycare pals. He often asked his mother, “When I’m finished fighting the bad guys, will we be able to go back to daycare and see my friends?”
Bruce is an optimistic little boy. He went through many difficult months with an astonishingly stoic attitude. His eyes light up if we mention Astro Bot, a video game hero who fights bad guys – just as Bruce does. Astro is a bit like his alter ego.
On June 12, 2025, Bruce has officially entered the maintenance phase of his disease. It’s a crucial phase, and a huge relief for his parents – back to normal life, almost! A summer of swimming, fishing with Dad, biking, colouring books, and the much-anticipated return to the daycare, where friends await.
Endearing, giving and amusing, Bruce is a comedian with a soft heart, always ready to make people laugh. He loves to dance to Cold Heart, is eager to go back to Funtropolis, and would like to go to Disney World. Another very fond wish: to ride along in a garbage truck with the workers on their rounds!
Bruce was treated at the Charles-Bruneau Hematology-Oncology Centre at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
For the families of our child heroes, participating in the 24h Tremblant is an opportunity to celebrate life, courage and hope.
