Hi, my name is Clément, I am 8 years old and I am in remission from Burkitt's lymphoma
It was in 2020 that Clément’s life – and his family’s – was turned upside down. He was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, abruptly changing the daily life of the three-year-old little boy.
What followed was a long stay at the hospital, far from home, far from his adored big brother Éli and far from his day-care friends. For Clément, the hardest part of the experience wasn’t the treatments as such – though they were intense – but the distance, the absence of fun and laughs with his brother. Being in the hospital every day, without being able to run, play or even step outside, was like being trapped in a bubble.
And yet in spite of it all, Clément stayed calm, strong and kept his sense of humour. One of his favourite sayings, flung like a light-hearted rejection of his illness, was “Let’s go, coconut!”
Clément is now eight years old and in complete remission. He does everything a little boy loves: ride his scooter, bounce on a trampoline or kick around a soccer ball.
He loves teddy bears, the colour blue, and video games. He wants to be a mechanic when he grows up. And his fondest dream is to travel to Italy! Gentle and affectionate, Clément makes an impression on everyone he meets.
For his parents, Marie-Claude and Daniel, the 24h Tremblant is more than an event; it’s a way to give back, to thank everyone who, directly or indirectly, helped heal their boy. Today, Clément and his family are examples of the resilience of children who’ve overcome a disease without losing their zest for life.
Thank you to the exceptional Québec Charles-Bruneau Pediatric Oncology Unit staff!
