Fondation Martin-Matte

For this 11th edition, the organising committee is pleased to announce that Fondation Martin-Matte is to become the newest recipient of the 24h of skiing. Mainly active to help head trauma victims, it’s mission meets that of the 24h Tremblant Foundation since both are staunch advocates of sport safety and the use of a helmet on the slopes.

Fondation Martin-Matte was created in 2007 by Martin Matte, a well known humorist in Quebec.  In 1986 his brother suffered from a severe head injury following a serious car accident.  Their lives were completely shaken. The accident caused major lifestyle changes that will last forever.

The Fondation Martin-Matte is aware of the realities that the victims and their loved ones face in this situation and strives to contribute in providing a better quality of life to children and adults living with head trauma or physical disability. To that effect, The foundation is committed to financially supporting the construction of fully adapted houses to welcome victims.  In December 2011, the foundation will have 2 « Maison Martin-Matte » open, one in Sherbrooke and the other in Laval which was inaugurated 2008. In addition to those, three other housing projects are in development in Quebec City, the Laurentians, Mauricie and Central Quebec to meet the needs of the victims.

Aware of the needs of people living with brain injuries or a physical disability, the Fondation Martin-Matten aims to assist as many people as possible.  So, as well as the housing projects, it provides financial support to organizations that plan leisure activities, including social integration programs for victims of a brain injury or a physical handicap which at the same time provide some respite for their family members.

Finally, the Fondation Martin-Matte is thankful to all his supporters and is happy to be member of Tremblant’s 24h of skiing challenge.
